Traffic Tickets, Points, and the DC/CR 90

The DC/CR 90 booklet tells you the fines and points for traffic tickets

If you receive a traffic ticket, there is a good chance it carries points. Speeding tickets will result in anywhere from 1-5 points. A moving violation resulting in an accident is 3 points. A DUI is 12 points. Points almost always result in your insurance rates going up which is why you should request a trial and go to court.

Most people do not know that there is a handy guide online that tells you whether a ticket carries points, how many points will be assessed, and the chargeable fine on the ticket. This guide is called a DC/CR 90 and here is the link:

You can look up any ticket and determine whether it carries points. Some citations like failure to display a license or driving without current tags do not carry points (but the latter can result in the officer taking your tags). Before paying any citation, look it up on the DC/CR 90. This is what lawyers do all the time.
