Make sure you obtain this crucial information after an automobile accident.

It is easy to forget to obtain crucial information after a car accident. You may be nervous and your body is probably full of adrenaline. This is perfectly normal. However, there is certain information you always need.

You need the other driver's name, address, date of birth, and other information. The best way to get this is to take a picture of their license. You should also take a picture of their registration and tag so you have all of their vehicle information. You also need their insurance information so ask for a copy of their insurance card.

If the police came to the scene, the officer should give you a form containing the police report number. This will enable you to obtain a copy of the police report later. Note that sometimes the police do not prepare a police report and this form will tell you if one was prepared. In addition, this will give you the officer's name in case you need bodycam video later.

You will want to secure the names, addresses, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses of anyone who was a witness to the accident or came to the scene later. You should also take pictures of the damage to all vehicles and the position of the vehicles after the accident. You may also want photographs of the roadway. You may decide to shoot a short video of the scene.

If you went to the hospital, you will want to preserve any discharge papers and disability slips. You will want to provide these documents to your lawyer. You will want to keep any information concerning the towing of your vehicle.

Lastly, you should make notes about how the accident happened while the occurrence is still fresh in your mind. You should write a detailed chornology of everything that happened in case you forget later on. By taking these steps, you will preserve crucial information should your case go to court.
