Electronic Filing Coming to Baltimore City

You will be able to file electronically in Baltimore City on May 6th.

Electronic filing is coming to all courts in Baltimore City on May 6th. Baltimore City will be the last remaining jurisdiction to allow electronic filing. All other counties require electronic filing for attorneys and permit electronic filing for pro se litigants.

The Maryland Electronic Filing System ("MDEC") allows you to file lawsuits, pleadings, expungements, appeals, and other matters while sitting at your desk. It is fast, easy, and allows you to file 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You receive an e-mail confirmation which serves as a receipt and you can pay the filing fee electronically as well.

Given the uncertainties surrounding the mail, filing electronically is a lot more reliable. You can also download a date stamped copy of your filing and you will receive an e-mail notification when another party in your case files a pleading.

The Baltimore City courts will have limited operations for trials and hearings for a short period of time while they get acclimated to the new system. Meanwhile, we look forward to being able to file documents electronically in Baltimore City at long last.
